AEP is with diffuse pulmonary opacities, blood/BAL eosinophilia, pleural effusion and rapidly-progressive respiratory failure in the absence of a cause other than a drug or abused substance (e.g. parasitic infection). See also under IIb and XVb. Separating drug-induced vs. idiopathic AEP can be problematic (PMID 2761601)
