The Drug-Induced Respiratory Disease Website
Of note, peritracheal and/or submucosal air/gas may obstruct the upper/central airway causing asphyxia. See also under Vf. Pneumomediastinum may cause mediastinal shift or compression with consequent UAO and/or acute respiratory failure (PMID 19748792; 31737371). Pneumomediastinum can also be observed as a complication of drug-induced ILD, pulmonary fibrosis or ARDS, either spontaneously or as a consequence of barotrauma (e.g. with pulmonary function testing or mechanical ventilation).
