Acute pulmonary hypertension

De novo or superipmosed on a background of preexisting PAH. Range from mild to catastrophic and fatal. May result from acute pulmonary vasoconstriction, extensive microembolism, or rebound vasoconstriction upon brisk withdrawal of pulmonary vasodilator therapy. See also under acute pulmonary vasoconstriction VIL
